The Big Choir is a Fundraising Community choir formed in February 2016 to generate regular funding for Cancer Research UK, and in particular The Francis Crick Institute in London www.crick.ac.uk.
Member’s subscriptions and money generated from ticket sales all go towards the research of over 200 cancers. To date we have donated £20,000 and we hope to do the same in 2018. We are opening more choir sessions in the borough and this will enable us to increase our donation, giving more money to the scientists at The Crick.
We cover a broad range of music, all mood enhancing, positive songs that leave you feeling energized and uplifted, even after a hard day at work or taking care of your children. You’ll go home unable to stop singing. We have around 100 members, some have never sung in a choir before, other who are very experienced. We don’t audition, unless you want to of course, and you don’t need to read music. We have members ranging in age from 25 to 75, there is no age limit. We want people who just love to sing, whatever standard they are. We’d love a few more men too!
We have a fantastic musical team teaching our weekly sessions, they make the sessions a really fun experience and we’re learning some fantastic songs for our Summer 2018 repertoire. We have so many bookings for performances and it’s not too late to join us.
Our sessions take place:
Wednesday 7.30pm till 9.00pm St Paul’s Church Church Hill, Winchmore Hill London N21 1JA
Thursday 7.30pm till 9.00pm East Barnet School, Chestnut Grove, East Barnet EN4 8PU
Wednesday mornings 10.30am to midday (commencing 18th April) St Stephen's Church, Park Avenue, Enfield EN1 2BA.
We are happy to welcome new members any time, we also have opportunities for choir leaders who might like to join us to run their own sessions. Please get in touch if you’d like more info, [email protected] We offer a free taster session to anyone who’d like to come along.

such a buzz! 5 Having seen The Big Choir advertised, I plucked up the courage to go along to a session just over a year ago, and I haven’t looked back since. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming and I have discovered the joy of singing as part of a group. It has truly enriched my life and I have gained some lovely friends too. Every week I leave the session with such a buzz. If you are thinking about joining – go for it. You won’t regret it!

smiling and happy! 5 I have always enjoyed singing but never felt I was good enough to be in a choir. Having plucked up the courage to go to the Big Choir my confidence has grown and I've learned lots about harmonies and singing together. Most of all I have had so much fun! Everyone is friendly and encouraging and makes singing together a truly enjoyable experience. Whatever type if stress I might arrive with after a day of work, after an hour of singing with these guys I am smiling and happy! Thanks Sara and Sharon!
