Job Title: SEND Advocate Salary: £26,000 FTE (paid pro rata) plus 6% employer pension contribution Working Hours: 14 hours per week Location: Community House, Edmonton, London Reports To: CEO Contract period: Fixed term for 7 months Benefits include: 6% Employer Pension contribution (after completion of probation period) plus 25 days annual leave (excluding public holidays) on Pro-rata basis. Having delivered the SENDIASS for over 20 years, we know that there are many children and young people with SEN/D who do not receive timely support or provision in education, and that the SENDIASS can be limited in the scope of the service. Every Parent and Child (EPC) has been awarded funding from Awards for All to provide an independent advocacy service for children and young people, with SEN/D, living in the London Boroughs of Enfield, Waltham Forest, and Haringey. This is an exciting short-term role for an experienced SEND advocate who is able to work with the demands of the service and build evidence the need for expansion for the service through managing a small caseload. MAIN PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE JOB The role will include: • Developing your caseload / undertaking triage calls • Producing statutory assessment requests on behalf of parents and schools • Negotiating with Local Authorities (LA) • Attending meetings with LAs, schools and other stakeholders • Assisting with Annual Reviews • Case management and co-ordination - ensuring effective strategy and planning in the gathering of independent evidence • Lodging appeals and managing tribunal preparation • All related matters that require advocacy/support • Providing reassurance to parents and carers • Where needed, hosting subject related webinars • Record all cases to the CharityLog database • Provide regular reports/updates to the CEO • Report on Safeguarding concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. To undertake training on Child Protection and Safeguarding • Building case studies and data to evidence the impact of the service and need for future expansion • Write a detailed end of service report capturing the evidence and making recommendations • To adhere to the organisational polices and procedures at all times. OTHER GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES • Recognise and work within the ethos of the service and organisation • Receive managerial supervision and appraisal in line with EPC policies and procedures • Where necessary, to attend staff and team meetings as required • Undertake other duties appropriate to the role.
