Responsible to the Headteacher / Inclusion Manager About the role ● You will gain invaluable insight and experience of working within a classroom setting and will develop the Knowledge, skills, and behaviours to become a Teaching Assistant ● You will be given additional training in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities ● It is an interesting, varied position that gives the valuable opportunities of gaining experience in working with young people, colleagues, and key community partners ● You will find out about the teaching paths that are available and the hope would be that this apprenticeship will lead you onto your next step on the career ladder Purpose To support the class teacher during lessons and assist in the support and inclusion of pupils with special educational needs within the school. Duties to include ● Provide teaching support in small groups and where necessary be assigned to individual pupils in order to aid the teacher ● Delivering small group interventions to support catch up ● Liaise with the teacher to understand the objectives of each session ● Assist the teacher with observations and monitoring of the progress of children, both educationally and socially ● Keep up to date written records for supported pupils ● Promote positive behaviour patterns, raise self-esteem, and improve independent working in children to assist their education and growth ● Provide nurturing behavioural support for children with additional needs ● Inspiring Healthy, Active Lifestyles and extending opportunities for pupils ● Maintain confidentiality about home-school/pupil-teacher/school work matters. ● Any other duties required by the Headteacher within the scope of the post. Requirements and prospects Desired skills ● Leadership Skills ● Experience of working with young people ● Ability to work as part of a team in a busy school environment Personal qualities ● Self-motivated ● Adaptability ● Ability to use your own initiative ● Well organised ● Strong communication and teamwork skills ● Commitment to the role Desired qualifications GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 (or equivalent) in English and maths are an advantage but not a requirement for the apprenticeship If none of the above have been achieved the applicant must understand that to achieve the TA Apprenticeship standard both a Functional Skills Level 2 in both English and Maths is required to be achieved by Gateway Future prospects ● Teaching Assistant ● Teaching Assistant with specific curriculum focus ● Primary School Teacher ● Transferable skills can be taken into other fields of employment All Enfield schools are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
