Main Duties and Responsibilities: • To assist in developing an impartial, confidential information, advice and support for young people (aged 16 – 25) with Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) • To provide impartial expert advice on Education, Health and Social Care to young people aged 16 – 25 who have SEN and/or disabilities ensuring their views are heard and understood. • To develop and build a network of support for Young People with SEND who are at risk of exclusion or have been excluded from School. Job activities 1. To work to the IASS Quality Standards 2018 and in accordance with SEN (Special Educational Needs) Code of Practice 2014 2. To complete the CDC/IPSEA SEND IASS (Special Educational Needs and/or Disability Information and Advice Service)Training – Level 1 & 2. 3. To develop and promote good practice in working with young people with SEN across Enfield aged 16 – 25. 4. To empower young people to develop confidence in their own ability to make decisions about their future and to communicate their views effectively to professionals in Education, Health and Social Care 5. To be responsible for developing and maintaining good working relationships with schools and colleges to support them in providing accessible information and advice to young people with SEN 6. To identify and develop links with mainstream and specialist Post 16 educational/training settings and services that provide independent advice, advocacy and specialist support in preparation for adulthood 7. To assist young people in developing and strengthening the YPSG (Young People's Steering Group) in Enfield encouraging young people’s participation at a local and strategic level 8. To carry out outreach work which engages with young people with SEN who are at risk of social exclusion and working closely with excluded children. 9. To build a network of support for children who are at risk of exclusion and who have been excluded. To build links with all relevant stakeholders. 10. To organise events and activities to increase the levels of engagement and participation of young people with SEND who feel marginalised and are at risk and/or vulnerable. 11. To undertake activities and become involved in local and national initiatives that may lead to the reduction of knife crime and grooming of young people with SEND. 12. To provide expert advice and information at drop-in sessions for young people 13. To work with colleagues to produce resources and leaflets for young people where there is an identified need for information. 14. To continuously update the information available to young people about services on offer in the borough and develop specialist knowledge on a number of areas of SEN provision and to work closely with the Local Offer 15. To deal with telephone enquiries and signpost to other services, where necessary, deciding when to enlist the professional advice of other agencies. 16. To keep up to date with national developments and changes in Education, Health and Social Care Law in relation to young people and disseminate information to the SEND IASS team & volunteers as appropriate. 17. To maintain accurate and up to date records and record diversity monitoring information on the team’s electronic database, producing reports and providing the Local Authority with statistical data, if required. 18. To attend regular team meetings, staff meetings and performance development reviews with the SEND IASS manager, as requested. 19. To promote and comply with EPC’s Equality and Diversity Policy Statement in the opposition to and eradication of all forms of discrimination ensuring services are accessible to all users. To work within all EPC’s policies and procedures, including Safeguarding Children and Health and Safety at Work.
